we, beasts

we, beasts

with one flash of feeling

a single, lurching drop from heart to head

you became raw,

nothing more

than red pumping flesh

two eyes, two ears

and a throatfull of animal.

nothing more.

and so,

hunter and hunted,

we are

cold, soulless in the night

carnal, caned, Screaming delight

and stabbing teresa’s spear

in flesh we used to call ‘heart.’

i saw you smiling,

i saw you smiling and almost, nearly

remembered.

darling, I look at you,

all wolf eyes

and whisper

‘once we loved.’

you only growl.
